Avid Systems is seeking a highly skilled Senior Unified Communications Engineer to support the District of Columbia's city-wide voice and video communication systems. This role involves working closely with the DC-Net Voice Engineering Program Manager to ensure the efficient operation, maintenance, and development of unified communications infrastructure. The successful candidate will contribute to enhancing the District’s communication systems and supporting critical voice and video services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and troubleshoot core infrastructure for Cisco Voice and Video systems, including installation, configuration, and resolution of issues in collaboration with customers, contractors, and vendors.
  • Install, upgrade, and migrate Cisco voice systems, such as Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM), Cisco Unity Connection (CUC), Session Manager Edition (SME), Expressways, Emergency Response systems, SRST, voice gateways, and Cisco Webex Calling.
  • Migrate Cisco voice systems from legacy UCS infrastructure to Cisco Hyperflex and oversee the transition of devices to cloud-based Cisco Webex Calling.
  • Implement and manage monitoring tools for Cisco voice infrastructure and applications, addressing alarms and escalating to Cisco TAC when necessary.
  • Perform bulk programming and reporting for Cisco voice and video devices using GUI interfaces and CLI tools.
  • Analyze and resolve escalated trouble tickets and complex issues, recommending corrective measures within established service levels.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers and management to develop test plans and implementation strategies for new products and services.
  • Participate in on-call rotational support, monitoring communication devices for operational requests, trouble tickets, or outages, and responding promptly.
  • Create and implement test plans for production changes, submitting and defending change requests to the Change Advisory Board (CAB) in alignment with change management procedures.
  • Convey technical and functional concepts clearly, acting as a subject matter expert (SME) in specialized technical areas.
  • Identify and promote best practices, standards, and improvements to achieve high-quality services and products.
  • Provide support and design for industry-specific technologies that integrate with existing systems or networks.
  • Lead complex system implementations with technical expertise, interacting with executive-level business users and technical experts.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • 11-15 yrs. conveying technical and functionalconcepts for a specific technical specialty.
  • 11-15yrs. preparing complex Required technical documentation.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in IT or related field orequivalent experience.
  • Cisco Certification Network Professional (CCNP)
